Event registration confirmation and receipt - WSOD
October 01, 2013, 12:45:09 pm
Hi everyone,

Using civi 4.3.5, we set up a new event page, go through online registration, submit on the registration confirmation page, and then the browser appears to be "thinking" for a long time, then just stops, resulting in the white screen of death. No confirmation page or confirmation receipt appears to the user (or by email), however the payment processor (in this case, paypal) confirms a successful transaction, and civicrm shows a successful registration for that individual's record.

Any idea on what may be causing this?

Here's some more information on this issue that hopefully can help someone pinpoint more exactly what may be causing this.

We installed a fresh Civi 4.3.7. We created a new paid event, and discovered that civi timesout only when the option to generate a confirmation email is checked, and the event is a paid event (goes through paypal pro processor). This means that the confirmation page AND the confirmation email are not generated by Civi and results in the WSOD.

If we disable the confirmation email, the confirmation screen is generated. If the event is not a paid event and we enabled email confirmation, the confirmation screen and confirmation email are generated.

If it's a paid event, and we enable email confirmation, and then delete all the smarty code from the email template, the confirmation screen DOES appear, and the confirmation email that is generated is blank. We then had to slowly cull away smarty code from the email template to finally get it to generate a confirmation page AND confirmation email.

YMMV, but some insight into this issue would be helpful since this is a HUGE issue!

i think some folks might have already answered this on irc.

try disabling the PDF receipt and see if that helps. the dompdf library is not great in some cases (we dont know too much about that library)

Having this exact same issue with the newer version of CiviCRM. Upgrading to the newer WP version did seem to get rid of the event registration processing stopping half-way through and returning a blank screen (and not registering the person for the event), but now this is happening. Person does end up being registered, but it is causing a lot of confusion with the group.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue beyond taking away emailed receipts would be great, since this is why we set CiviCRM up!

disabling pdf receipts just means that there is no pdf attachment to the receipt

the email receipts are still sent
