Assigning relationships by batch or group
October 03, 2013, 10:35:40 am
Hi all,

I'm wondering if there's a way to assign a contact to have relationships with multiple other contacts by batch, or by group. Example:

1. We have 85 organizational contacts

2. John Smith is a volunteer for us. We want John to have a permissioned relationship with all 85 contacts.

3. But now we have to individually click each separate organization to create the relationship.

4. There are 8 other "John Smiths" I have to do this for, and that's a lot of clicking

I'd love to be able to perform an action like, "select all 85 organizations that are members of this group," then simply add that relationship to John Smith's record.

Thanks for your insights.

not currently afaik

two options are
- via sql
- via an Export of the ID of the Org and Invididuals concerned and then run an Import to create the Relationships

Thanks for the tip on exporting/importing, Pete. That may be what I need.

Hi Pete

I'm not seeing an option to assign relationships when importing contacts. Am I missing something?

Thanks!

if your csv has 2 cols
ind id
org id

and want to make a relationship of 'cleaner for' between them

then map as follows

ind ID > Internal ID

org id > (way down the bottom of the list you should find the various relationships) > 'cleaner for/is' > internal id (of org)

sorry to be minimalist - if above doesn't provide pointer, check in the book where there may be screenshots. hth
