OG sync - initial sync registers wrong relationship between OG and CiviCRM group
October 05, 2013, 04:49:13 am
I have tried to combine CiviCRM 3, Drupal 6 and OG 1 a couple of years ago. Now, I am trying to get this working for C4, D7 and OG2.

I have read a couple of topics ons this and the GitHub project of Coleman. Currently, I have been able to sync some groups (not all of them), i.e. for some of the OGs a corresponding CiviCRM group and ACL is created. I have not been able to sync the proper roles from OG to the CiviCRM groups.

Is there a quick reference or any other info on how to set up D7, OG2 and the CiviCRM sync module in order to get this working?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if there are too many folks out there using D7 and OG (or  for that matter D6 and OG). I suspect you might be heading into not-frequently-used territory.

please do share your findings and discoveries :)

hi Ed - i may be able to help a bit - we aren't using this much any more as we have gone for more direct synch - eg adding civi contacts to an OG due to a particular Relationships, or Event participation - rather than adding people directly in OG

But i just tested on a demo site of ours (note to anyone who cares, turn of UUID and Node Export beforehand)

Make new OG

Check in civi - find 2 civi groups - 1 for admin with me in it

Add new contact to OG - find them in the civi group for the group members

so seems to be work fine at that vanilla level.

What outcomes are you getting or not getting?

Thanks for your replies!

I have set up 4.4.3 and Drupal 7.24. Groups are created, admins are transferred from Drupal to the mailing list and ACL. This works out of the box. (I was put on the wrong foot by this link https://drupal.org/sandbox/colemanw/1968272).

Users which are not admins are not synched to CiviCRM in my setup. This is fine for me at the moment, but I will look into that.

Ok, I have been able to add users as normal members in CiviCRM after removing them from the OG and adding them.

Is there an easy way to do this in bulk?

Ed - not clear to me  - which bit are you trying to do in bulk?
If the 'add members to OG' then you might want to look at what VBO can offer - not sure i have used it for that but ...

Couple of observation:
  • After enabling OG Sync, the two groups and ACLs are created, but the administrator groups are not populated. I have selected all my groups in Drupal and chose 'update'. This way, the groups are populated, but for some reason not always with the correct admins. Will look into that.
  • After executing the update, extra ACLs are created, but wthout a rol attached. These are superfluous. I have manually deleted them.

I have noticed that the relationship between Drupal and CiviCRM is not set up when enabling the module and thus synching for the first time. This is put into the source column of civicrm_group and it should contain the nid of the group. I have created an issue for this: https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-15837.

I think I have a solution for this. This is described in the issue.
