Membership Types not recognized on Contribution page

Hello! I'm sure there is something going on with our system because it appears that most people are able to create contribution pages with membership signup, which is what I want to do. (Actually membership signup with option for additional contribution would be more accurate).

I created a contribution page and filled out the Title and Amounts sections. Then I went to the Memberships tab and got this message: You need to have at least one Membership Type to enable Member Signup. Well, I already have several Membership Types created! For some reason they aren't recognized here.

If I now add a new Membership Type it will appear and I can enable Membership signup for this contribution page. But I don't want any new membership types! There are already lots of memberships entered using the existing types!

Any ideas? Could this be a caching or other database issue? I'm using Drupal 6.28 and Civi 3.4. PHP5.3. Would love to upgrade to Civi 4.x, which would probably take care of this, but converting to Drupal 7 is taking our agency a while.

Any suggestions for tracking this down would be greatly appreciated!

to be honest most of us dont rememeber 3.4 features or bugs

note that there is community support for a D6 version of 4.3. A fair number of folks are running 4.3 on D6, i would do the upgrade
