I published a new extension that shows a popup confirmation before making a contribution:
https://civicrm.org/extensions/payment-popup-confirmation

To use it, disable the confirmation page on contribution pages. The popup will show a summary of the contribution amount (incl. "other"), membership and whether it is a recurring payment, as well as the name of the contributor and the e-mail.

I have tested a few use-cases, but have not tested exhaustively complex price sets. If you find this useful or find some limitations to the extension, please let me know! (if you notice limitations or bugs, please attach a screenshot)

I've been using it for some time on a high-volume site, but I haven't really tested all possible use-cases.

However, it's fairly easy to test and see if it works or not, and should not cause mysterious havoc on sites. If a few people can test it, I would feel more confident in saying it's "stable".
