Petitions broken on Joomla CiviCRM demo site?
October 12, 2013, 04:26:50 am
Just tried to create and test a Petition on latest civicrm joomla demo site:

CiviCRM 4.4.beta5
Joomla 2.5.11

I created a new petition and when I try to sign it from backend I am redirected to following URL:

http://joomla.demo.civicrm.org/index.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/petition/sign&sid=1&reset=1

which as you can see gives me the Error: CiviCRM-001 message.

Please note that I have tested this also on my Joomla 2.5 / civicrm 4.3.4 site with same results.

Also have I question - How am I suppose to expose this petition in Joomla frontend area?

Check the demo url again. The petition should work now. All i did is set the permission (sign CiviCRM Petition), can be navigated as:
Administer -> Manage -> Access Control -> Joomla Access Control, then change "CiviCampaign: sign CiviCRM Petition" permissions for Public.

Re: Exposing to front page -

1. It could have been added like a menu item, similar to events like mentioned here - http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Configuring+Front-end+Event+Info+and+Registration+in+Joomla!+Sites, IF petition was exposed as menu item type.
But this option is currently not available and could be a good contribution.

2. Select a menu item type which allows exposing urls. Not sure of the type exactly, but i think it does provide an option to set the url of your choice.

3. Create an article and embed the url.

There could be more options, other joomla users might know and could help.

Yup that worked.

Wondering why it did not work for Joomla admin session and public permissions where needed.

Yup - not available - would need some assistance to learn how to contribute this.

It would have to be an external URL type in Joomla, but this is not the best approach.

Same drawbacks - if its not a proper Joomla menu item then Joomla modules cannot be shown on that page.

Perhaps a code snipplet like other forms can be used - but not currently available.
