CIVICRM not showing up in list of plugins
October 14, 2013, 06:31:07 pm
I am using  Wordpress 3.6.1 with mySQL  5.5.32 and PHP 5.3  on  hosting service Startlogic.
I first tried to install CIVICRM by downloading civicrm-4.3.7-wordpress.zip to my Windows 7 computer,
and then from within Wordpress'  "Install Plugins" screen selecting civicrm-4.3.7-wordpress.zip.   The installation crashed,       I suspect because the hosting service's installation of wordpress could not handle so many files or so many megabytes of files.

So then I unzipped civicrm-4.3.7-wordpress.zip on my PC into a directory civicrm and used an FTP program (FileZILLA) to upload  this directory  to the wp-content/plugins directory on my hosting service.   When I start Wordpress administration and click "Installed Plugins" from the menu on the left, CIVICRM does not appear in the plugin list.    All the previous installed plugins do appear.

Also while copying the 6000+ files, three times I was asked if a file should replace a previously installed file with zero bytes,  but I do not think that would cause the CICICRM notto appear in the plugins list.

Any suggestions ?    I suspect the actual fix is easy if it could be identified.

Thanks

Might want to consider moving to a better hosting provider like civihosting or civisites

Possibly file permissions issue - your webhost probably supplies CPanel; can you examine the contents of your CiviCRM folder and ensure that the civicrm.settings file was updated w/database connectivity info and so on?

The procedure I've used on used on two different hosts (HostGator & CiviHosting) is to upload the zip file and then to uncompress it on the host using the file manager in the control panel.  I've never had an issue with the CiviCRM plugin not appearing in WordPress.
