Use of Parent Tags and Child Tags
October 17, 2013, 06:11:31 am
Dear all,

I have a question concerning the use of tag hierarchy. I am not sure if hierarchical tagging works as intendend.

Example Tag Structure
Primary Tag A
--Seconary Tag 1
--Seconary Tag 2
--Seconary Tag 3
--Seconary Tag 4
--Seconary Tag 5

Aim
Using the extended search I would like to find all contacts tagged with "secondary tag 1", "secondary tag 2", "secondary tag 3" etc. However, instead of selecting all the secondary tags in the search view, I would like to select only "Primary Tag A" and find all the contacts with the secondary tags.

Problem
When I search for "Primary Tag A" i will not get any results from contacts that have any secondary tags. I expected that this is the way, tag hierarchy is supposed to work. But maybe I am wrong?

I would be grateful if somebody coud clarify whether this is a bug or a feature. If the tag hierarchy works as designed, is there any way to achieve the aim (searching only for the primary tag but getting all contacts with secondary tag as result)?

Cheers
Fabian

It's intended that when you select a child, it doesn't select the parent, and when you search for a parent, it doesn't find all the children

Might be simple to change the behaviour at the ui level (ie automatically add the children when you add a parent in the advanced search)

Thanks for the fast answer Xavier. I will try to find another way to do it - if I find out anything useful I will post it here.
