membership setup question
October 18, 2013, 10:30:01 pm
Hi,

I have the following scenario for individual memberships.

Members can sign up for 1 year or 3 years membership.
There are regular and subsidized (for students) rates for both categories.

Regular 1 year - $50
Regular 3 years - $130
Subsidized 1 year - $40
Subsidized 3 years - $100

The regular and subsidized members enjoy the same benefits.

Whenever a membership is expiring, members have the option whether they want to choose the 1 or 3 years renewal.

Do I set up 4 membership categories for the four scenarios? Or is there a better way of doing it? Like putting the regular and subsidized memberships together and using price offsets? Or can everything be done using just 1 type of membership?

In addition, when people take up 3 years membership, they are entitled to a free gift. I understand this can be done via premiums.

In our case, members have the option of paying an additional $10 for the free gift to be shipped to them. Can this be configured?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I thought the contribution form would allow the user to specify the number of terms a membership signs up for. No?
If not, Drupal Webform Integration can do it (as of version 4).
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

Pretty sure the multiple term option is in the price set configuration

Thanks for your reply.

Ok, I figured it would be simplest to set up as just 1 membership option and use the contribution forms and pricesets to give them multiple paying options.

I set up a membership type that has duration 1 year.

For the renewal, I set up 2 price sets, one for renewing of 1 term, another for renewing of 3 terms.

Made payment through credit card for the 3 terms, but the membership duration was only extended by 1 year.

What could be the problem?
