Evaluation questions
April 10, 2008, 06:26:50 am
We're evaluating CiviCRM as a platform for our online school. I haven't been able to find answers for these questions. Any help is aprpeciated.

1. We need to be able to send events registrants e-mails after registration and before/during/after the event. Is there any way built-in to do that? Or can an event registrant automatically be assigned to a group or groups?
2. Also, we need to be able to send e-mail to a combination of
2. Can CiviMail be set up to automatically e-mail members at appointed dates after registration?
3. I noticed that Joomla 1.5 will be implemented in the next release. Any timeframe for that?

thanks.

Hopefully some folks who are actively using CiviCRM for class registration / management will also chime in here, but some quick responses:

1. Events can be configured to automatically send confirmation email at time of registration. Registrants can be added to a static group via the Profile "Add to Group" mechanism. AND / OR you can create smart groups based on event + registration status / participant role / etc.

2. You can pre-schedule a CiviMail mailing - but you would need to do some custom coding if you're looking to have a cron-job-driven fully automated "reminder" message functionality (i.e. mailings using a specified template automatically go out to all registered folks at 10 days and 5 days prior to any event start date...). There's an existing similar script for mailing membership renewal reminders which would make a decent basis for this kind of feature.

3. Official Joomla 1.5 support is scheduled for our 2.1 release. Roadmap is here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/CiviCRM+v2.1

... however some folks are currently using 2.0 w/ Joomla 1.5 - check this forum for posts/feedback.
