Using Wordpress as opposed to Drupal
October 25, 2013, 07:22:34 am
I have set up CiviCRM both on Wordpress and Drupal 7 (not ready to go to 8), as test setups, haven't gone live.
Does anyone have positive experiences with a CiviCRM + WP site? Does anyone know of a compelling reason (other than Drupal's massive numbers of contribs and functionality, Views, Fields & Entities etc.) to NOT use Wordpress but rather Drupal?
My main consideration now is that the client will find it easier to maintain/configure WP, which has a gentler learning curve than Drupal.
The clients will I think be able to manage with CiviReports as far as exposing data goes, or customized reports; the users don't need to see much but register for events, send and receive email, hook up to FB and the usual cast of 'social' stuff.
Thanks for replies!

If you honestly do not need Views and Webforms (e.g. you have no desire to get data in or get data out of your CRM in anything but the standard ways) then go for it.
On the other hand, if you do find you need to customize a form or a view, you'll find that while WP is easier on the client, it's a lot harder on you.

Thank you Coleman; I know that, no matter the additional plugins and widgets to WP, the basic architecture isn't built from 'the ground up' to be as extensible as Drupal.  The main things I need to verify are whether the CiviReports and template overrides will cover the client's need.
But also I wanted to find out whether there is some hidden 'issue' that won't be obvious at install time but will hurt in the long run, and if anyone has experienced that - not just limitations/difficulty presenting data/forms but - I don't know WP so well and don't have a 'feel' for gotchas/pitfalls in WP whereas I do more w/Drupal!

Everything in CiviCRM core works on all 3 CMSs.
Civi in WP has the added feature of supporting shortcodes, for embedding CIvi forms onto WP pages.
