Exporting Drops Zero in Zip Codes

We have some contact records from the East Coast. When exporting records whose zip code starts with zero, the initial zero gets dropped.

I wondered if anyone had a CiviCRM-related fix for this. Is this related to the format of the zip code field?

I know spreadsheets like Excel see the number and think it's an integer. The invisible zero will show up if you format the cells as "text fields." I don't use CiviCRM yet, but it would have to export all zip codes with an apostrophe in front of them to stop spreadsheet programs from doing that.
