Customized fields for members
October 28, 2013, 02:24:37 am
Hi,

I'm a bit confused where a customized membership field should be placed.

I have this setup.

Individuals
- Parent
- Staff
- Qualified Member

Only qualified members can sign up for membership.

Let's say I have a membership number that is unique for every individual once they become a member. Even if they do not renew for a few years and rejoin a few years later, they will re-use the same membership number.  This number is also unique.

Should I define this membership number as a field of Qualified Member or as a field of Membership type?

Defining custom data at "Qualified Member" makes sense to me.

Actually, I would propose the opposite.

are these membership numbers that already existing eg that you need to import - or do then need to be contiguous or doesnt it matter.
is there a good reason why you cannot just use the unique civi contact id?

The membership number follows some formula.
