Disappearing custom fields after changes to "demographics" field

Hi,

In my version of CiviCRM, if we go to a contact's page and then use inline editing to change some values in the demographic section, the field below (a group of custom fields for that particular contact type) disappear because the contact sub type is being unset.

These fields are still invisible on a refresh (as the contact sub type hasn't been recreated) and only reappear when the contact sub type is set to be how it was before.

We are running v4.2. Does anyone know if there was a fix for this in a subsequent version of CiviCRM?
