Duplicate value in value field for Price Fields
April 10, 2008, 07:20:04 pm
Maybe taken the wrong approach here. for an event i want to put a list of options including friday lunch, saturday breakfast, lunch etc. So have put in a price Field for Catering with Checkbox and multiple choice options with each meal in different row and the amount in the Value Field (which is later calle Option Value)

but it won't let me put the same price against different components - says "Duplicate option value"

Do prices have to be put in non-multiple choice?

Also I now realise that Event Fee is using a radio button approach - ie either or - how do i put in a menu of items to cover meals, accommodation etc?

Peter:

I think price-sets operate on a AND-OR model. Each item is basically a selection. Within each selection a user can choose multiple options. Thus to cover your case, you create the following items each of which is a checkbox:

Friday breakfast
Friday lunch
Friday dinner
Friday accomodation
Saturday breakfast
...

I do agree that the above is stupid and the model is broken :) We are reusing the custom field option code here, which does not work very well in this case and might need to rethink this part

Wanna file an issue and we'll figure out something in a 2.x series

I think the only problem I have is the fact that it won't allow a repeating 'value' within the checkbox, when that value is the amount/cost of one item. Beyond that I thought it worked pretty well for what I needed. I just had to shift to a separate set of multichoice for each day to get around the fact that it doesn't like to have the same amount used against two multichoice items. Maybe the jpg makes it clearer.

It wouldn't like it if, for example, I had the same price for Sat breakfast and lunch.

thats the issue. we are using the option value table and we are reusing the value as the price field. The value needs to be unique, which means you cannot have two selections with the same price. So we'll need to figure out some creative way of staying with the option/value system, but allowing a duplicate value (i.e same price). I suspect the solution is not gonna be trivial in this case (but we'll figure a nice hack!)

I've added an issue to the queue for 2.2 for this (since I had a related issue on my "list" which we should look at in the same pass):
