Could not find valid value for id
April 11, 2008, 02:47:33 am
Hello,

I'm using joomla 1.5 with legacy support (due to a template I'm using)
I installed CivCRM and created a menu item in Joomla pointing to CiviCRM
When I try this menu item I get the message below.

Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.
Could not find valid value for id

Return to home page
.

Here's the backtrace

/home/collegec/public_html/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/CRM/Core/Error.php, backtrace, 258

When you create a menu link to a CiviCRM page, you must identify the event/contribution page/profile ID. The only menu link option that does NOT need an ID identified is the Dashboard option (because it just shows the dashboard details for the logged in user).

Looks like you are trying to access the event info page for an event. Go back into CiviEvent > Manage Events, and note the ID in parens after the event title. Return to the menu link you've created in menu manager. Insert the id number in the Event id textfield.

When you select an Event ID in the Menu Manager to link it up that selects a particular event making it go directly to one event rather than showing a list of them.  How can you make a link to the list.

Also what is the profile for?

Couple ways to show a list -- in the backend, there's a link in the manage events table for an rss feed and also an html page with events. You would have to turn around and display that in a module or feed in your CMS.

Profiles are collections of fields, which can be created, edited, or searched on. Read through documentation to get a handle on profiles. They're an important part of the big picture.

Any idea how to get the feed into joomla, HTML or RSS?

I would use RSS.

Just feed it back in to Joomla with the builtin News Feeds component. Or use the builtin Feed Display module if you want it in a module position.

That makes sense.

I copied the RSS link from the book mark section.  I tried that in Joomla News Feed but it gave an "ERROR LOADING FEED DATA"

My guess is that
http://chicagoriverchurch.org/administrator/index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/event/ical&reset=1&page=1&html=1
and
http://chicagoriverchurch.org/administrator/index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/event/ical&reset=1&page=1&rss=1

are not the real links I'm supposed to be using, is that correct?

That's a bug. The feed links should not be on the admin side.
Use this:

http://chicagoriverchurch.org/index.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/event/ical&reset=1&page=1&rss=1

Sweet!  Your the man!

I got it to work with RSS but there is a "CiviEvent Public Calendar" title at the top.  Is that possible to change?

I tried to do the HTML using...
http://chicagoriverchurch.org/index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/event/ical&reset=1&page=1&html=1
but it also gives the same Feed Error.

Use:
http://chicagoriverchurch.org/index.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/event/ical&reset=1&page=1&html=1

index2.php is used as the main page engine for admin side (within the administrator subfolder). for frontend pages it's index.php

re: the title --
Looks like that's controlled via template, so you can use a template override to change it:
administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/templates/CRM/Core/Calendar/Rss.tpl
administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/templates/CRM/Core/Calendar/GData.tpl

(I'm not sure what the GData one is used for, but it contains that title text as well)

Awesome.  That makes sense.

I found the RSS file and the title is indeed CiviEvent Public Calendar

I edited / uploaded the new one but its still the same.. :/  Don't know whats up with that.

On another note though, Is there a way to make a event public and not have the "Download ical" and the iCal icon on the event page?

You'll have to edit the corresponding template file to remove it.

Try deleting contents of:
media/civicrm/templates_c/

They are the cache files. Clean that out and then reload the page. Title should be fixed.

Modify the template file to remove those links.
I think the file is: templates/CRM/Event/Page/EventInfo.tpl

Or do a search of the install package for occurrences of that text. There are several instances of it.
