CiviMail sending mail from two different domain names?
October 31, 2013, 01:50:12 pm
Hi, no idea if this is possible or not. I can't seem to find the info.

We're toying with the idea of running one install of Wordpress, running multisite to deliver content for two different domains. This scenarion involves, of course, the install of one instance of CiviCRM. Not a problem. However I've just been told that it is mission critical to be able to send mailings from one, OR the other organisation, keeping emails separate. So we need to be able to send email to members of ABC.com from ABC.com and to XYZ.org from XYZ.org.

If I understand correctly, there isn't a way to configure CiviMail to use mail servers from both ABC and XYZ, is there?

If it's possible, would greatly appreciate being pointed towards the right book, tutorial, or resource.

Otherwise, looks like we'll have to run two different installs of WP+Civi.

Thanks

Hershel

No. CiviCRM only supports one method for outgoing mail. To use different domains you would have to change the outgoing mail settings each time I think.

Thank you.

Changing mail servers each time is not particularly useful to us :D I think we'll go with having two separate installs

another option might be to contribute a patch that sets:

a. the mail server and domain to use at mail sending time (your request)

b. the hostname and pattern to use for all urls (i.e. the images, redirect and opt-out urls) (related to your request and has also come up independently)

Thanks Lobo. I might have to read up on this, not sure how to do something like that. I'm definitely more of a HTML/CSS/A11Y kinda guy than a coder.
