Problem with scheduling volunters needs
November 04, 2013, 03:55:20 am
I'm running into a problem when I try to define the vonlunters needs. It seem that the only acceptable start time for a new entrie is the default start time of the event.

As many other org, we often have event that stretch over full day or even over many days (like fund raising or workshop) and within those event we have multiple volunters that are involve at different time during the event.
For example; some volunters are assign to welcome the people, to give them badges and program, and other that will come later in the day as speakers for the same event. So, for the same event we may have 2 peoples involved from 08:00 to 10:00 and others from 09:00 to 12:00. A third group may be use to welcome back the people after lunch from 13:00 to 14:00 and a fourth group will be speakers from 14:00 to 17:00

At the moment CiviVolunters will pop up a error message stating that "start_time is not a valid date" if we use anything but the event start date/time.

We are running on CentOS 6.2 , WP 3.7.1, CiviCRM 4.4 (in french), CiviVolunters V1.0

Any help would be greatly appreciate.

I have include a few screen shot showing the event basic info and the error message I'm getting in CiviVolunters

That is not the intended behavior - any date is acceptable in that field, regardless of the event date(s).
Could be a localization issue.
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

You just put your finger on it !

If I change (in the localization setting of CiViCRM) from French(Canada) to English(Canada) or English(United States) IT works fine.

So the "bug" is related to the use of a non-english language (French in my case)

It's a good news for the extension but still a problem for me. 90% of the peoples working on the system (Including our vonlunter manager) do not speak english. I could probably train them to use the CiviVolunters interface but this change impact ALL of the CiViCRM screens.

But anyway. thanks for your help in finding the cause.

I really wish I could implement this extension.  :'(
It would be a great tool for us. Hopefully it will be fix in a future release.

Flaf, can you please create an issue for this? Training your staff to use CiviVolunteer in English isn't the right solution; we should fix the localization issue.

Thanks for creating this issue, Francois, and thanks to Coleman for fixing it.

The fix will be available in CiviVolunteer 1.1. It depends on a patch to CiviCRM core which went into 4.4.1, so you'll need to upgrade both CiviCRM and CiviVolunteer for localization to work correctly. If you don't want to wait for CiviVolunteer 1.1 and you're brave, you can apply the patches yourself or download the latest code from GitHub.

I think 1.1 should resolve VOL-30 as well as the issue Francois filed. It's a major issue for non-Drupal folks. I didn't verify that it's a problem on WordPress, but I suspect it is and it is definitely a problem for Joomla.

I can get to VOL-30 tomorrow. Coleman, anything else we should consider for 1.1?

Many thanks to both of you.
I just installed the new version and it seem to be working perfectly in CiviCRM 4.4.1 in french under Wordpress.
Our volunteer's manager will now give it a good test run using the real data from one of our event.

Thanks again.
