Problem migrating CiviCRM from Joomla to Wordpress
November 07, 2013, 02:39:37 pm
I'm trying to migrate from a Joomla 1.5 site with CiviCRM 3.3.5 to a Wordpress 3.7 site with CiviCRM 4.4. I found an article on the export/import process that seems to have (mostly) worked:

https://nuxx.net/blog/2012/05/11/moving-civicrm-on-joomla-to-wordpress/

It's worked in the sense that that the mySQL tables seem to be imported ok, and the data are there. However, trying to run CiviCRM now generates an error:

Warning: mysqli_error() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli, resource given in /home/jazzblue/public_html/jazzblues2.org/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/civicrm/civicrm/CRM/Core/Error.php on line 182

Followed by:
Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
DB Error: no such field

Does anyone have an idea what could be going wrong?

Thanks in advance!
Larry

We have our own guide also http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Migrating+from+Joomla+to+Drupal which applies to any two CMS's in reality.

For your error, can you enable debugging and do it again so we can see a better error message?

I don't think I can enable debugging, since I can't get into the component . . . unless there's a change I can make manually in one of the files to enable debugging.

The migration guide you in your link suggests migrating from similar CiviCRM versions, and that may be part of my problem, as my current CiviCRM installation is 3.3 on a Joomla 1.5 site. Migrating within Joomla seemed overly complex, and I was hoping to bypass the complexity by going straight to Wordpress -- looks like this may not be working.

I'm wondering if a more straightforward solution might be to export my contacts and memberships from the old version and import to the new one?

if you have the skills and the energy, i would:

a. upgrade joomla to 1.7.x
b. upgrade civi to the latest version supported by joomla 1.7, i.e. civi 4.2

you might need to do the above in multiple smaller steps

c. then switch to migrating to wordpress

Yes, I would suggest what Lobo says--get your good CiviCRM to a later version and then migrate.

However I hadn't noticed all the details of your first post. After you migrated, did you run the CiviCRM upgrader first thing?

The only other idea is as you said--export and import. Which is good only if there's no other important data you need to preserve.

Thanks -- I'll try updating in small chunks -- we'll find out if I have the skills and energy. :)

Hey,

Just got the same error message. Wanted to ask: Did you manage to solve the problem? If yes, how?
