How to set up a 3 installment payment plan for a membership

Is there anyway to set up the payment plan to exactly 3 installments?

If I choose recurring payment then I have to leave it up to the user to enter the exact frequency.  So for example if I am charging $180 annual membership and giving my members an option to pay in 3 installments, how would I do that?  I don't want to leave it to them to choose $60 and then 3 monthly payments.  Because what if they forget to do that, then I am stuck with a $60 donation and have to run after them for the remaining $120!!!

Please help I really appreciate your response!

You can implement custom validation via a small jQuery snippet.

Unfortunately I would have no idea how to even start learning to do that....  I checked out the link and could not navigate from there to any instructions that I would understand... I can copy and paste.. but not much more than that..

if you have a local person who is familiar with javascript / jquery, you can try and convince them to give some of their time

alternatively, if you have the $$$, you can hire someone from our providers listing: http://civicrm.org/providers
