Choosing which mailings should create activities
November 09, 2013, 12:14:16 pm
Hello, sorry if this has been asked before - I did search, but couldn't find the answer.

I would like to send the following two types of mailing using CiviMail:

1) Monthly mailings to a large group (>10,000), where the openings are tracked and recorded in the CiviMail report stats, but no activities are created.
2) Ad hoc mailings to smaller groups (eg 300), where the openings are tracked, and activities are created.

I know that CiviMail has a component-level setting where I can tell it whether or not to create activities for mailings, but I want to be able to control this for each individual mailing. Is there a way of doing this?

Thanks.

right now, its a site wide setting and not per mailing

depending on your site mailing patterns, you can potentially do this via a hook and set/reset it based on the size of the queued mailing, i.e. this will work if you have only a max of one queued mailing at a time

Thanks for confirming. I guess it's no hardship to just uncheck the "create activities" option when we send the big mailings. As long as we remember to check it again afterwards...
