Upgrade failed. Can't update Dashboard

Hi,

I'm pretty new to CiviCRM, and just uploaded 4.4.1, upgrading from 4.4.0.  There seemed to have been an error (probably my mistake) causing the civicrm.settings.php to include a path error.  A message told me how to fix it, which I did.

CiviCRM came back, but when it did, all I can see is the dashboard with a heading box and none of the usual dashboard elements.  I cannot recreate the dashboard, configure it or refresh it.  I just keep getting the same screen.  There is no black bar at the top with any options.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Well, I fixed it, without assistance, so that's a good thing.  But, it was really rough going.  Respectfully, your documentation on upgrading needs some work, as the upgrade process is harder to handle than the actual installation.  Good thing this only happens twice a year.

would be great if you could at least leave some notes here about what you felt the upgrade doc was missing for your situation
