Trouble with matching fields on contact import
November 18, 2013, 08:22:19 am
Hello all,
I've been working on a Civi upgrade project, using a dev site rather than the live one for testing purposes. The main database was exported/imported using mysqldump, but now I just need to add the newer data that's been added in the last week. Tried to use the Civi export/import features, but am having issues getting the fields to match. Whether I select export Primary fields, or custom ones, it's the same issue.. when I go to import, the available fields don't match, including the Internal Contact ID (which I thought was standard across the board), Contact Type, etc.

What am I missing here?

I am guessing you have the Import in Step 1 set to 'skip' and hence the Internal Contact ID is not provided to you.

I just checked on the Drupal Demo version and it is there if you set to 'update' and is not there if you set to 'skip'.

If that isn't the issue, I have no idea. sorry

It looks like you did not check the "First row contains column headers" box in step one.  That is why the column headers are appearing as the first record.  As a result, Civi does not know how to match your fields.

The answer may be both - but #2 does not cause you to not find the Internal ID - that is #1 i suspect
