I suspect your 'members' are joining the national organisation.
Branches are something they associate with.
So a contact has a membership with the national NPO . . .

If I try to keep this really simple, how about:

National NPO = membership type
Add all appropriate contacts to said NPO m'ship type.
As appropriate, put NPO m'ship contacts into regional [regular] groups.

I'm quite unsure whether or not to create a group for their executive
committee or tag the members thereof.

Would that set up be setting the NPO's CiviCRM up for any later grief?
Plus not make it awkward for something to be added in/on later, if further
functionality was asked for?

when you are making a mailing you should be able to upload images to your site at that point

groups or tags - toss a coin sometimes or just do both and see which fits better

they each have their nuances but can have a lot of overlap

having a better understanding of the purpose eg re Exec, can help

i might also consider using Relationships - that way you get a nice record of who was on the Exec and when.

I was meaning here, on this forum. Some forums have
an album option for forumites to upload and store
images that can be linked to, in posts.

I suspected as much, but, being a newbie
here, wondered if it was totally hidden, or
only available after x number of posts.

Setting the default language away from USAnglish
is problematic. Several of the options have the same
[en] notation which upsets the process.

I've also found a minor spelling (Capitalisation) error
to do with localisation. Not really a bug. Something
for you to fix, Pete?

Mmmm - learning a lot as I go along. Maybe that should be stumble or bumble along?

How are data entry people supposed to identify Internet Banking as a payment method? It's getting evermore common. EFT is the nearest option, but can I create an IB option?

I can't seem to customise any reports to include the supplemental address lines <if not empty>, so that a suburb or locality shows up in a report. In larger metropolitan areas, people tell me that detail would be very helpful.

Please! How do I change the default language from USAnglish? It's a pain for the data entry person to have to manually change it for every new contact. In the same vein, should localisation change spellings for certain things? E.g. check [USA] to cheque [UK]? (minor point)

Are there pros and cons to using another contact's address in the data entry process? I.e. not just for speed, but because doing that creates a linkage of some sort?

Something for Pete?
Wairarapa does not show up in the [State/Province] drop-down list and (in the same list) waikato needs first letter capitalisation.

You can add more options here
civicrm/admin/options/payment_instrument?group=payment_instrument&reset=1

Default language - i presume you aren't meaning
/civicrm/admin/setting/localization?reset=1

but if you change it there then new contacts get to have the new default.

By 'anothers' address do you mean Shared Address - if so, the advantage is if the household moves you only change it in one place. but i think there may still be some places that this logic doesn't fully flow through the whole system but it is certainly improved on what it used to be.

Wairarapa is in the Greater Wellington Region

yes poor old waikato - not sure why they got picked on but no we haven't provided a patch to fix that yet

OK. Thanks. Got that one figured. Eventually.

I didn't mean the CiviCRM program default language.

I was referring to the contact's [Communication Preferences] Preferred Language
option / choice. Can I make that default to [English (Australia)] with the re-
mainder as options?
http://happenstance.info/CiviCRM_default_language2.jpg

I can't find an option to change that default.

OK. Another 'no big deal' matter.

What about my other vexing question?

Any pointers on that one?

example of a 'report'? link to the demo site if necessary

The demo site option doesn't get the idea across very well, as there
are only three column headers.
http://wordpress.demo.civicrm.org/wp-admin/admin.php?page=CiviCRM&q=civicrm/report/instance/1&reset=1

Here's a screenshot with my chosen headers for a Constituent Summary Report.

http://happenstance.info/CiviCRM_constituent_summary_report.jpg

[Street Address] only shows the first line in the [Address] area of the data
that's entered. I can't find anywhere to customise the report so that it inc-
ludes [Supplemental Address 1] and/or [Supplemental Address 2] so long
as they're not empty. Those are where a suburb (e.g. Karori or Glenn Innes)
is entered.

I have "manipulated" the report horizontally, to make the image displayed
here somewhat smaller.

Re: Start Where?

I need a little guidance here, before I display my ignorance too much
by suggesting that what follows is a bug. What seems to be happening
is that a change is being made by the software, to data previously enter-
ed by staff, in an earlier screen.

http://happenstance.info/Civi_mship_one.jpg
There you can see that the source of the m'ship is entered as 'brochure.'
That the value is searchable becomes moot, later.

http://happenstance.info/Civi_mship_two.jpg
After clicking [Save] the source is shown as entered: 'brochure.' Good.
Then things get puzzling . . .

http://happenstance.info/Civi_mship_three.jpg
As soon as the cursor is clicked on [Contributions], so the operator
can add a donation given by the same newly-entered member, the
source of the m'ship is changed from the word 'brochure' to
Member Membership: Offline signup (by staff_name)

http://happenstance.info/Civi_mship_four.jpg
Once the donation is entered and saved, the contribution record
that self-changed earlier, remains as it was: self-changed. That
makes it necessary for the operator to go back and edit the
Member Membership: Offline signup (by staff_name) back
to 'brochure.'

Why is the [source] value being arbitrarily changed? Am I missing
something esoteric?

EDIT
Entering the donation first and the m'ship second
still has the same result, as described above.
