Individual with last name "Null" not saved?

Strange error...we have an individual record who's last name is "Null." Civi will save the record but only with the first name. Weird? Anyone else with this?

Funny: On Drupal demo 4.4, as well as 4.3, this was not reproducable. But on my installation at SfE (Version 4.4.1), I see the same behaviour!!

the string "null" has been taken over the our DB package (DB_Dataobject) and is used to make a column null.

so we avoid using the string "null" per se. this is a long standing bug/issue

Update on this issue (fixed in 4.5.3): https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-15522
