Joomla, Community Builder and CiviCRM
April 12, 2008, 10:42:05 pm
I am running Joomla 1.5 with community builder.  I was going to use DT Register to manage my non-profit events, but I like the wide variety of payment options available on CiviCRM.  It also appears that i can do a lot more with my user access levels.

Can I integrate my community builder with CiviCRM?  Or do I need to just create a new membership form/section with CiviCRM?

Thanks.  I have one more question.

As I'm creating this site for a non-profit, they work on a volunteer basis with different rights.  These people change and the majority are not computer saavy.  How easy is it for one of them to upload a membership file through admin?  One of the reasons why I selected CB was because of the additional plug-ins available.  I guess I could install CiviCRM on a test system and find out for myself.   ;)

1. User access controls features for CiviCRM under Joomla are still quite limited, altho we hope to improve this over the next few releases. So do take some time to see what's available before moving ahead.

2. Importing contacts is a pretty straightforward "wizard" interface - and if the data is coming FROM the same source - you can save a "Mapping" for the import to the person doing it has almost no "choices" they need to make. Obviously best to try it and see if it's sufficiently usable for your folks.

Thanks Dave.  I think I will install it on my test system and see what it has to offer.  Nothing like trying it out before moving forward with it.
