same or different database

Is it better to install drupal and civicrm in the same database or different ones?

I understand there will be some views integration problems if I install them separately.

If I already install them separately, should I move them into the same database?

What's the best practices?

If by problems you mean an extra step, then yes... using separate databases requires you to go to CiviCRM > Administer > System Settings > CMS Integration and copy the array generated to your Drupal settings.php file.

IMHO it is easier to understand where data is stored and deal with update and rolling back changes when the databases are separate, but in some hosting environments (like Pantheon) you are forced to use a single database for both the Drupal and CiviCRM tables.

Thanks Kreynen.

Previously, I had some trouble getting the integration to work but it works now.

Best practice is definitely two databases, and as noted, there should be no problems with Views integration.
