Quick Search Not Working in 4.4?
November 23, 2013, 01:07:39 pm
I just upgraded to 4.4.2 (Joomla) and my quick search function never returns any results.  Searching through simple and advanced search still works fine, but not quick search.

Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a fix?

The demo site seems to work fine.  In both 4.4.0 and 4.4.2 on my site, the quick search function doesn't return any results.  4.3.5 worked with no problems.

Just uninstalled and reinstalled 4.4.2 and still have the same problem.  I realize it's probably something specific to my site, but if there are any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Guessing you have something installed in Joomla that is breaking/conflicting with civicrm.
What version of civi did you upgrade from and what version of Joomla do you have.

If you install civi 4.4.2 on a clean (nothing else installed) joomla site will things work?

I found exact same issue on my install but could not debug the cause as I am not that familiar with civi.

I'm on Joomla 2.5.14 and upgraded from Civi 4.3.5.

I opened Chrome's debugging tools and took the following screenshots.  The search query is running, the results just aren't displaying.  There is an error that I don't think is related to this issue, as well as 4 warnings that I'm not sure are related or not.

Both screenshots are in the attachments.  If more info would be helpful, please let me know what I can provide.

Thanks everyone for your help!

I also have things working in a similar environment.

I also went a step further - is you upgrade to 4.3.8 (I think that's the last in the 4.3. series) quick search should still work (at least is does on my tests).

Noticed also that the contact search fields within the record don't work either.  For instance, when you're entering an address and want to use the address of another contact, that lookup field doesn't work, nor does the employee of lookup field or when that field type is used as a custom field.

I imagine it is a conflict with Joomla, maybe jQuery?  Any guidance on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated.  Thanks for everyone's help.

I doubt the core team will spend too much time unless we can replicate this on a clean Joomla installation and as it cannot be replicated on the civicrm joomla demo site I don't think its pure Joomla related. Something else on our Jooomla install is conflicting with this.

I had offered back in this thread to put such a site online in order to assist anyone that understands civicrm operations better than I do in an attempt to debug this issue.

http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,30608.msg131216.html#msg131216

The offer still stands.

nant:

thanx for the offer, however at this point we dont have the resources to debug conflicts and interactions with other components :( If u'll have the budget, might want to get someone from web access and/or ossseed to look into it and post a patch back

thanx

Totally understand - it's a catch 22.
Disappointed of course.

Hi nant,

I'm suffering with the same situation here. Quick Search stopped working after 4.4.x upgrade on Joomla! 2.5.16.

Any success on fixing it?

Thanks!

Nope - I have not been able to resolve the conflict and as I cannot replicate on the civicrm joomla demo site it is difficult to get core civicrm devs further involved (see discussion earlier in thread).

Maybe if you list what extensions and plugins you have installed on your website, we might be able to identify common elements and try to rule out one-by-one in order to see what specifically is conflicting.

Other than that people haveing similar issues can post here also so we at least keep track.

Found some time to look at this and seem to have fixed it - for my site anyway.

Recorded what I did here: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,31263.msg134413.html#msg134413
