Best practices question - Anonymous Donations
November 25, 2013, 03:01:07 am
We would like to give our contributors the ability to donate anonymously.  We don't mind collecting information on them, but we want to be able to flag them as requesting that the particular donation made is an anonymous donation.

I have been thinking of using a tag, or creating a custom field in a profile, but it would seem like this is a common need in the Civi Community.

What are the best practices for handling donors who wish to remain anonymous?

Thank you.

We get a lot of anon donations.

Some request it, some because we get a cheque with no details. We create an Anon contact each month and assign the contributions to that contact.

It works but it's not something we've reviewed in a while, I think the practice pre-dates our migration to Civi.

We are doing it quite similar - but we are using only one ("dummy") contact which contains any anonymous donation (most of them are cash donation).

I do not see any reason in creating this dummy contact for every month, because with CiviCRM you can easily select all contributions to that contact by any period you like (last month, April last year and so on).

Thank you both.

I am trying to simply mark the donation as anonymous, not take donations anonymously.  We know who they are, but they may not want to make that information public.

You can use a custom field on the contribution object for this to record that fact
