Would mutliselect for financial type in searches be possible?
November 27, 2013, 02:59:43 am
At the moment you can select more than one membership type in an advanced search or using Find members but you can only select one financial type in Advanced search or Find contributions. Is there a technical reason for that?

We have 4 different accounting codes that cover each of festive appeal donations, tax appeal donations, regular giving and one-off donations at time of joining/renewing.  We also have accounting codes for memberships and events.

For us it would be great if the financial type was a CheckBox field like the membership type field. Then we could create one smart group of, say all donors in the last 12 months.  To do that at the moment we need 4 smart groups.

I can understand why event names (and to a lesser extent event types) is an auto-complete select - there could be hundreds of event names to search through, but financial type is just a select field, so presumably hundreds of financial types are not anticipated.

Does anyone else see the benefit of having financial type as a CheckBox in the searches?

Yes Yes Yes !! I would be happy about that. (Doesn't necessarily have to be a checkbox, could be multi select)

Currently, we are working around that, by using the search builder... However, this is also pretty complicated. Or we are using reports, where it is possible to select several financial types.

Hi Joanne,

First of all thanks for all your work on documentation and other things for CiviCRM - it's really appreciated.

Great suggestion. We'll enhance the search in the manner you suggest for 4.5 (see http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-13848, and comment there on the design).

Cheers,
Joe
