Cannot get CiviMail to work with a new host - Please Help!!
November 29, 2013, 02:36:13 pm
I'm trying to set up a new site at Bluehost and I'm at my wit's end getting civimail to work. I have latest D 7.2.4 and CiviCRM 4.4.2 and I believe I've configured everything correctly, and have done this easily on a half dozen sites in the past. Essentially, I configure the outbound smtp and send a test message successfully, but under civimail I cannot get past the code 550 smtp error when I try to send a test message.

Failed to add recipient: cunningham.rick@gmail.com [SMTP: Invalid response code received from SMTP server while sending email. This is often caused by a misconfiguration in Outbound Email settings. Please verify the settings at Administer CiviCRM >> Global Settings >> Outbound Email (SMTP). (code: 550, response: Verification failed for No Such User Here Sender verify failed)]

I have spent many hours over the past couple of weeks trying to get this working and I'm really up against a time crunch now and fear I'm not going to make our go-live date.

I have even plugged in every mail parameter from another of my sites that is working correctly and can't get it to work.

I notice that on mail accounts, to be used for bounce processing and activity processing, I can't specify the smtp port - my server uses port 26 instead of 25 and I wonder if this is the problem. Is there some place in the database or elsewhere in the site settings that would allow me to get to this?

There's one other bit of weirdness that might be related but I just don't know. Bluehost tells me my user name for setting up an email client should have a "+" instead of an "@" sign, and I find that when I set up my outbound email address using either of these, both work and give me success with "save and send test email". I've set this both ways every place I can find and it's still broken.

So my main question is: Is there some place in either the db or in the file system that these parameters are stashed, and could they be in multiple places and erroneous in one of them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

might want to consider spending a few extra $$$ on a provider that knows civicrm well, i.e. those that are listed under:

http://civicrm.org/hosting/providers/

might want to search the forums for bluehost, a few folks have posted some tips and tricks.

Lobo,

You're right of course, but I've dreaded having to move the site - it's not fun. However, in the long run, life will no doubt be much better with a knowlegeble hosting service.

And since I still have a whole week before launch, I'm going to move the site to CiviHosting, where I've had outstanding service from Hershel Robinson. He's very active on the forums and also has worked wonders when we've had issues in the past.

Happy Holidays to you and all who contribute to and benefit from this outstanding project!

Rick

Followup: Hershel moved the site to CiviHosting for us (probably simple for him, but saved me many hours) and of course civimail works right out of the box. Thanks Hershel!
