CiviMail User Check error

I'm getting the following error when I "Test Settings" on https://www.civismtp.com/drupal/civismtp/account

Civimail User Check : could not authenticate because: Interface 'JObservableInterface' not found

Joomla 3.1.5
CiviCRM 4.3.5

Receiving similar error when triggering cron via URL.

Fatal error: Interface 'JObservableInterface' not found in ...
Seems to be a Joomla bug, related discussion in http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=29549.0
