Double-Optin and User/password access
December 09, 2013, 03:59:39 am
New in CiviCRM (which I investigate for my parish which has a WordPress site)

I'd like to implement a Double-Optin registration process (2 steps / intermediate mail containing a confirmation link) and a User/Password access (for my Contacts to update their own personal information).

I thought that CiviCRM would provide this, but Lobo answered me that this function should be provided by the CMS (WordPress)

I am not very expert in WordPress either.

Does anyone know how ? (and how to dedupe-check at the very first registration step)

Do you want church members to register themselves?  Or will you manually set them up?

As far as manually setting them up in WordPress, the way it work is you assign a password and WordPress can email it to them.  It's doesn't force them to change it when they first logon but they can change it if the want to.  You'll also have to set them up in CiviCRM as a contact and run the synchronize WP users to CiviCRM contact function.

You should be able to use a CiviCRM profile to allow users to sign themselves up.  Under the advanced profile options there is a "WordPress user account registration option" which appears to do this.  I've never tried using it so I can't speak to how well it works.

Thank you for your answer

Yes, I want members to register themselves, and then manage their own personal info

I have set this "WordPress user account registration option", which, actually, creates a WP User account simultaneously with a CiviCRM Contact (which avoids having to synchronize).

I am currently digging furthermore because I met some other problems beyond

Thanks again

WordPress by itself doesn't provide this but you can add functionality with Plug-ins.  I did a Google Search on "WordPress double opt-in and got a lot of results.  The third listed, G-Lock Double Opt-in Manger (http://wordpress.org/plugins/g-lock-double-opt-in-manager/) seems to be a fit for you.  However only you can determine if it'll work for you.

You need to do your own homework.   You can search the plug-ins listed on http://wordpress.org/plugins/, read about them (descriptions, ratings & comments), test them and select one.

Good Luck.
