civicrm on the Joomla front-end
April 15, 2008, 05:46:21 pm
I install and configured CIVICRM 2.02 on Joomla 1.5.2 but cannot get it on the front-end.

I created a menu item, but when I try to launch that item I get the following message:

"Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.

Could not find valid value for gid

                   Return to home page."
Please help.

Note that v2.0.x does not support Joomla 1.5.x

i'll allow some folks in the community who are running the above combination to help you out. We'll start supporting 1.5.x with v2.1.x

Did you modify the v2.0 according to this blog post?   Or are you trying to run in legacy mode?

If someone has it working in legacy mode, I'm sure you'll hear how here.

Why don't you try the mods in the blog and run it natively since that's reported to work?

I have a joomla 1.5.2 setup in legacy mode w/ civicrm 2.02 and havent had any problems.  And I didnt modify anything either.

When you create a menu item, make sure you set the parameters properly. (ie: the ID of the event or whatever it is you are trying to link to).  The error you are getting - "Could not find valid value for gid" sounds like you have no ID specified.

Thanks Nutbuster:

Where do you find the IDs?

When I try to create a menu the Choose CiviCRM task does not have all the options that may be need on the front end, how do I get them there?

The id's are listed in the backend, where you have configured events or profiles.  For example if you browse to Components -> CiviCRM  -> CiviEvent then you will see a column in the summary table labeled ID which lists the id for each event.

In order to access exposed events and profiles on the front end, take a look at the instructions here: Configuring Front-end Event Info and Registration in Joomla! Sites .

Skip down to the Joomla 1.5 steps since that's what you're using.
