Ipage hosting with Joomla 3.2 and civiCRM
December 09, 2013, 09:17:55 am
I just signed up with ipage hosting and started creating my site.

On top of the fact that the site is very slow, a lot slower than hostavo free hosting, I get error messages with the civiCRM dashboard when I am the only user logged in and no one else is viewing the site. It is not even build or advertised.

Only one "widget" on the dashboard work and the other 2 give me this error:

=================================

Array
(
    [callback] => Array
        (

  • => CRM_Core_Error
  • [1] => simpleHandler
            )

Code: [Select]
=> -24
    [message] => DB Error: connect failed
    [mode] => 16
    [debug_info] =>  [nativecode=mysql_connect(): User nissimbiz already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections]
    [type] => DB_Error
    [user_info] =>  [nativecode=mysql_connect(): User nissimbiz already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections]
    [to_string] => [db_error: message="DB Error: connect failed" code=-24 mode=callback callback=CRM_Core_Error::simpleHandler prefix="" info=" [nativecode=mysql_connect(): User nissimbiz already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections]"]
)
==================================================================================

Ipage says that I can have up to 10 max concurrent(I am not sure if this is enough, but also says this:

Hello Nissim,

Thank you for your patience.

The component 'civiCRM' is not closing the connection in the script. I suggest you contact the vendor of the 'civiCRM' regarding this.

If you have any further questions, please update the Support Console.

Sincerely,

Maybee it is just a setting in joomla or civiCRM?

Thanks

Hershel

I am not aware of any settings to adjust this. CiviCRM works fine on other hosts, you can see a list of providers here: https://civicrm.org/providers/hosting so that problem would appear to be that your host is not able to run CiviCRM.

thanks for the quick reply...

I am thinking of simply cancelling the account with them I just purchased. To be fair, it was a promotion and I am only paying $50 for 2 years including the purchase of a domain(need to renew after one year).

But I find it really slow on top of these problem described.

Any other suggestions of people using joomla and civiCRM on their host? I am open to recommendations.

Nissim

you get what you pay for...
CiviCRM is more resource intensive than a basic website, even one running a CMS.
in my experience, very few cheap shared hosting solutions are adequate for running CiviCRM effectively.
