Missing functionality - no gap in membership
December 10, 2013, 08:55:04 am
Many clubs do not allow gaps in yearly membership.

For example, if someone subscribes on 15/5/2013 for a 12 month membership, then the expiration date is set to 14/5/2014.

If he renews early, then the system correctly adds another year to the expiration date pushing it back to 14/5/2015.

But if the subscription expires and the member renews for example 2 months later, then the new start date is set to the renewal date and the expiration date is calculated based on this new start date.

But many clubs do not allow this for renewals and they want existing members to start the renewal (that's why its called a renewal and not a new membership) from when they expired.

We handle this through an extended grace period, during which time they are considered an active member so as long as they renew during grace, the renewal is calculated from their membership end date.

The challenge we have is in determining how long to grace....

I was going to suggest the same - and you can set up more than one Grace status if that helps differentiate between the 'recently ended' and the 'long time ago' ones

they are considered an active member so as long as they renew during grace, the renewal is calculated from their membership end date.

One thing to consider is when the 'fixed period rollover date' is set. If a member is in grace and he renews after the fixed period roll over date, then his renewal is calculated from the membership end date plus one month.
