Pull civicrm 'button' styles into their own stylesheet
December 11, 2013, 08:07:11 pm
After being asked to undo the civicrm stylings on its own buttons and get the native theme's buttons to show for the umpteenth time, I'm wondering whether it would be a good idea to pull out these styles into their own separate stylesheet?

I'm unsure about other CMSs, but with Drupal at least we could then remove the css file from inclusion from within the theme by attempting to include a stylesheet of the same name. The native Drupal button design should then simply show through.

Alternatively, removing the button styles from public pages entirely is another option — as generally speaking we'd always prefer the theme button styling over the civicrm styling.

I'm not yet volunteering to attempt this work — just wanting to discuss the idea first.

Some thoughts on this in no particular order
  • I've been wanting to move to jQuery.ui based theming. Currently we use the default jQuery ui theme which looks nothing like the rest of civicrm. Integrating the two would be good.
  • I've been wanting to create separate "front-end" and "back-end" stylesheets
  • I've been wanting to make a "baseline" css file which strips out any styles which the cms may have applied. Might make sense to only use this one on the back end.
