Question about profiles and info capture
December 17, 2013, 12:44:00 pm
When I set up a new event, I often set up a new profile or reuse an old one.  Most of the time when I want to capture the registrant's phone number and address, the profile is set to capture the "primary" one.  However, when I actually view the contacts that are created from that profile, I see that the info they put in is mapped to their "home" address and phone number.  I know that for most of them they are actually putting in their work phone and address.

Why does this happen?  Am I misunderstanding how profiles relate to contacts?

Thanks.

At Administer > Customize Data and Screens > Dropdown Options > Location Types (Home, Work...) you will probably find that Home is set as the default address type.

So if your profile is set to collect the primary address it will be saved with location type = Home.

To save to a location type other than the default you need to specify that in the profile  ie set it to capture the Work address not the primary one.

There has been talk about allowing contacts to choose the location type they are saving, but AFAIK this is not standard civicrm.  I can see you are using Drupal and I suspect that would be something that could be done with Webforms, but I don't know for sure.

Yes you could do this with a drupal webform.
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.
