Only New Contacts can be sent civimail

Greetings; I'm experiencing an odd problem;
Trying to send a mail message from civimail; I select a group of around 2000, and on the next screen only 3 show up as 'Total Recipients:'; 3/4 of the 2k have an email that works, and none are marked with a 'hold'.
These three who can get emails happen to be both members of the organization and persons who recently signed up for a 'membership', as opposed to the rest who were direct imports from our migration.
I also tried starting an email via searching the group and hitting send mass email to those search results and that didn't work either.
I've had this same group and have sent out a half dozen emails to the whole group.  This is the first time I've sent using 4.4.0 since upgrading and I'm a little baffled. 

Any ideas here?



Sidenote: At this time I'm unable to upgrade on this installation to 4.4.3; another forum thread

Has anyone experienced any issue similar or have any idea how to diagnose it?  This is making civimail unusable at the moment for our organization.

It appears only emails coming in from the profile/registration forms are being allowed at the moment

if you have the $$$ might be worth getting someone from the civicrm provider listing to take a look and investigate.

alternatively, you can take a look at mysql query logs and figure out what is happening and why civi is seeing only 3 contacts

a bit hard to debug via the forums :(

hmm; well I figured out the cause of our mailing issue

civimail wasn't adding everyone because they were marked as "is_deceased"="" when the sql query was looking for "is_deceased"="0"so I 'killed off' 3 people and brought them back to life, which got them to be added to the mailing list. 

I then ran "UPDATE civicrm_contact SET is_deceased = 0 WHERE 1 = 1" and updated our known dead contacts manually...

no idea how it got to be "" instead of "0", but that appears to have resolved the issue.

Had the same after importing a lot of contacts. The new individuals are Zombies: their 'is_deceased' status was NULL (or undefined), whereas CiviMail does not send mail to zombies...

A quick UPDATE civicrm_contact SET `is_deceased`='0' WHERE (`contact_type`="Individual" AND `is_deceased` IS NULL) fixed it
