I am trying to setup events registration where participants need to be approved before being accepted (and proceeding to payment) - I have enabled the option and relevant participant status modes,  but upon submitting the registration form, the user just gets put back on the form with no message or error, and no emails get sent, no approval states are made.

Am I missing something not so obvious to get that functionality? Any suggestions as to where to look or how to debug this would be appreciated.

On a side note, I also have a need to give participants the ability to pay a deposit* instead of the full fee up front.. I was thinking of doing this by some clever ubercart/webform integration, but I am wondering if the "approval to participate" and "available spots" functionality will work with the webform and/or ubercart payment workflow?

(*I intend to try to create an entity of some kind, perhaps a plain node, that attaches to a user and that then incorporates "Amount owed", sort of a non-deleteble shopping cart item.. Might have to do some kind of module, or just clever use of the drupal rules stuff, not sure what will work best yet)
