Can I set Relationships in a membership payment?
December 27, 2013, 12:42:25 pm
Hi so my non-profit is thinking about setting up civicrm to manage our membership data.  One of the things I was trying to figure out though - we have approved fundraisers called delegates, who collect dues from members.  Most members will pay to the same delegate forever, but several will bounce around, or fall behind on their dues, run into someone at an event and then pay their dues to them.    So I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to make it so when a 'membership' is recorded in civicrm, to have a 'relationship' in the dialogue to list a delegate as being the person who collected that dues money.

I tried a couple of different approaches, but am not really sure how to add custom fields to a membership dialogue like that.

I think you want a contact-reference type custom field that extends the membership record.

PS I think the contact-ref field will probably suit you, but if you want to create a "real" civicrm relationship you could do that by setting up your form using drupal webform-civicrm integration

Thanks for the quick reply, I had the same thought a few hours after I posted, so it's good to have someone else agree that it's a good idea!
