In general please reproduce things like the below on demo and give us instructions on how to see the issue. A one line description does not really give us enough information most of the time

thanx

may be to do with not having set up the custom data and entered in to profile correctly. i got caught out a couple of times when i set up custom data, then the profile, then got the profile in the event, and then went back and tweaked the custom data, it removed the profile and i had to go all the way through the system to ensure changes were coming through rather than throwing something out. pete

Posted on Demo Site
CousiMo Event 4

when viewing the event i get the following error:
Fatal error: Class 'CRM_Core_BAO_CustomOption' not found in /var/www/drupal.civicrm.org/public/sites/drupal.demo.civicrm.org/modules/civicrm/CRM/Core/BAO/CustomGroup.php on line 1184

stepe taken
created a custom profile for events
added two custom fields
so far so good, when i went back to confgiure event 4 and added informaiton to the custom field .
then went to view the event and i got the error above

2. also i realized, once you create a custom field in creates that name as a column in the database tables, but when i change the name on civicrm it doesn't change it in the tables. one you have a name used for a "text" and you realize that you want to use it for "multi select" and decide to change the first one ( the one u used for text and change the nanme) and then try to create the name again using multi select, you'll get the error of duplicate table

Hey - I am not sure what you are expecting to see, but doubt if you can TestDrive an event that isn't set up for 'online reg' so added that - but no
so turned on a few more features - still no
then spotted it had no location - that fixed it ;-) (well no more errors reported)

AM missing something with Custom Data for Event. I see on Demo and our site that having created Custom Data for Event it shows on the Event page, eg http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=1, but not as fields for collecting data.

What is Custom Data for Events for? Is it for recording custom data about the events, and therefore I was right to be setting all my required data in the profile options?

Caveat: I know this can be a bit confusing - hopefully others can help us make it clearer going forward.... :-)

CiviEvent has two main types of records:
1. EVENTS : things you register for, that have title, start and end dates, location, summary ...
2. PARTICIPANTS : contacts who register / attend an EVENT

Generally you'll use custom fields inserted in profiles to collect info from your participants as they register (e.g. Meal Preference, Need Childcare? etc.).

Custom fields for EVENTS have a much more limited usefulness - basically gives you a way to add structured data about an event to be displayed on the Event Info page.

Hope that clarifies things.

Thank you for your reply, i guess in summary an event that has a custom field for an event, needs to have something put in the location fields.

a bug, but treatable,

Can u post this bug in the issue tracker w/ the steps for creating it and the error you get (I assume its the fatal error below - but would be great if you verify that and include in your issue report)... We'll look at fixing it for 2.1. thx!
