Upgrade notifications

The sysadmin of a CiviCRM user, who is not working with CiviCRM himself (and therefore not seeing the upgrade notices within civiCRM) was asking me for an upgrade notice procedure - especially for security updates.

They are using CiviCRM on Drupal. And preferably, they would like to have the upgrade procedure integrated with the update features of Drupal (which I believe however would be difficult to achieve).

Or, is there a mailing list set up for these notifications?

This was discussed some months ago, but I am not aware of the current status.

Cheers,
Detlev

There is no way to update CiviCRM by the update feature (or drush command line) in my knowledge.

My process to update CiviCRM with Drupal 7 :
  • Backup, backup and backup :) (Database and all directories)
  • Erase the CiviCRM path (drupal/sites/all/modules/...)
  • Extract the new version instead (ie civicrm-4.4.3-drupal.tar.gz and civicrm-4.4.3-l10n.tar.gz if needed)
  • With a browser, go to http://.../civicrm/upgrade?reset=1 and follow the instructions
If you upgrade to a major version (4.2 -> 4.4, 4.3 -> 4.4, ...), you should erase the "templates_c" directory (i assume you had tested the templates with the new version).

You can also read this "official" documentation.
