How to code Activity with a colleague?
January 10, 2014, 08:48:14 am
How should one of us tell (for example in our Activities) that one interaction with someone is a client interaction, and another is a knowledge-sharing/networking interaction with a colleague? I could create two parallel sets of Activity Types, but I'm still unsure how much of a delineation we need. I'm curious if any of you have advice in this area?

More details on our situation:
One of my staff has begun using Civi to record her conversations and meetings with colleagues at other organizations. I completely support this; I think everything we do with anyone should be in Civi.  But she asked, "how can I tell that one person is a client, and another is a colleague?" Until then, we'd used "Office Visit" Activity Type for any in-person activity with anyone. So I created the "Meeting" Activity Type, to be used with colleagues only. (Further complicating terminology, when we have Meetings such as tenant association meetings, organizing/education meetings, I code as Events, in which Clients are Participants.) I could create two parallel sets of Activity Types, like: Meeting w Client; Meeting w Colleague; Phone Call w Client; Phone Call w Colleague. Furthermore, Clients and Colleagues alike may attend the same fundraisers or meetings. A Client may get a job at an organization and then we interact with them on a Colleague basis, and vice versa.

Thanks!
