Event Location (Re)Naming Tip

This has been already shared somewhere most likely but I'll post up just in case.

When adding an Event Location to your Event and you'd like to keep your drop-down list 'memorable' for you this is what I do:

GORC hosts events at park trailheads and a few events at proper addresses so the existing CiviEvent Location doesn't really do the trick - there's no 'address' to a trail.

We go to maps.google.com in a new browser Tab and zoom in to the trailhead we need to highlight/list. Right-clicking over the trail parking lot/etc. gives you "What's Here". Selecting that will bring up GEO coordinates.

Now, return to CiviEvent location. We will enter say "Council Bluff Main Trailhead" in the 'address' field and enter the closest town and the state. We then enter the geo coordinates returned to us by Google Maps and then check (important!) "Override Automatic Geocoding" and hit Save.

The location is now saved and should show up in the drop down as "Council Bluff Main Trailhead". This is how the address will show on the public listing page.
Council Bluff Main Trailhead
Belgrade, MO
etc...

"Naming" your event locations is useful for proper addresses. We won't really remember what 2100 Locust Ave, STL, MO references but we will if we rename the "address 1" field to "Monthly Meeting at Schlafly Tap Room" and then put the proper address on the second line;
Monthly Meeting at Schlafly Tap Room
2100 Locust Ave.
STL, MO
ETC...

Hope that helps someone. Little tips like these take you a long way when trying to tidy up public listings or other areas of Civi.

To delete a listing, simply select it drop the drop down and BLANK OUT ALL DATA in the fields and Save. Should be gone when you check the drop down again. Just learned that myself.
