Permissioned relationships
January 17, 2014, 04:27:29 am
I've been trying to find any details on the effective use of permissioned relationships. All that is evident from the on-screen help is "This contact can be viewed and updated by the other."

I understand that it is also a really useful feature for membership organisations where the members are themselves organisations, in that scheduled reminders sent to those members are sent to the permissioned contact. I would love to make extensive use of this. But I can't find any documentation covering this feature. If there is something and I've missed it, please point me at it.

I would be happy to write this up, as I'm sure it is something that it would be of value to many users. Can anyone confirm what the current state of play is with this feature - use cases, what does and doesn't work, etc.?

To follow up on this, although I have given 'permissioned relationships' to my key member contacts of each member organisation, civi is still giving me the warning below about no email address recorded for the contact.

"You will not be able to send an automatic email receipt for this Membership because there is no email address recorded for this contact. If you want a receipt to be sent when this Membership is recorded, click Cancel and then click Edit from the Summary tab to add an email address before recording the Membership".

I don't know if it's different for receipts and scheduled reminders but, I'm not yet sure if assigning a permissioned relationship is going to work for membership renewal scheduled reminders.
