Civicrm and xcache
January 17, 2014, 10:45:14 am
Recently dreamhost moved our VPS site to a new server that *requires* the use of xcache. At the time I was blissfully ignorant of the issues with civicrm being incompatible with xcache. I just did a complete backup of the database on the old server and sourced it on the command line of the new server, and it has been running for a month without a problem.  BTW this is on drupal 7 and PHP 5.3 fcgi.

However since reading a lot of posts here about xcache I am concerned about what this means. Since we want to transition to wordpress, I created a clean WP site and ran the civicrm install to see what would happen.  I clicked through the orange warnings about xcache, and then it ran for a few minutes before stopping with a 500 internal server error.  So at least the installer has the problem.

Here are my questions:

1.  Is the xcache issue just in the installer?  If so I could build the WP site elsewhere and upload it in the same way I did the drupal site.
2.  Are these problems unique to drupal, wordpress or joomla?
3.  Are there any workarounds like php.ini settings to avoid the xcache issue?
4.  What part of civicrm is incompatible?  Is it possible to patch civicrm so it will run?
5.  Is there any plan to fix the incompatibility in future versions?

Thanks.
