How to populate "Available Volunteers" and recurring events
January 21, 2014, 04:53:36 am
Thanks to the tremendous support of Mr. Watts, we are making progress in using CiviVolunteer.

Is there a way to pre-populate the Available Volunteers pane in the Assign Volunteers window or does the Volunteer Coordinator need to search every time?

Also, we have a food pantry that is open three times a week and would love to not have to recreate an event for each day.

I've tried CiviCRM Multi-day event, but it has some limitations.  This is probably more of a CiviCRM question than a CiviVolunteer question, but what the hey.

Thanks again.

This is great news!

Presently, there are two ways to populate the Assign Volunteers window:
  • Use the search functionality as you've described.
  • Have folks sign up using the public volunteer sign-up form.
We have discussed other options for populating Assign Volunteers (e.g., populate with a smart group, populate using the results of a search, etc.), but there isn't a clear spec yet because this work is currently unfunded.

You can use event templates to avoid having to create the same events over and over again, but CiviVolunteer won't benefit from event templates. You'll still have to add your roles, shifts, etc. We've discussed templating for volunteer projects, but no one has come forward to fund this work either.

If you have the funds or developer capacity to help bring some of these new features to fruition, please get in touch!
