Importing to Custom 'Contact Reference' Field?
January 21, 2014, 02:27:24 pm
I'm importing about 170,000 'membership' dues and have created custom 'contact reference' fields for the 'Person Dues Paid to' and 'Data-Entry Person'.  However when I try to import the .csv file, I receive 'invalid value' errors for the columns which I am trying to import into those 'contact reference' fields.   Any thoughts?

Ok, so this was a simple fix, but still, there should be better documentation about this - I needed to use the 'CiviCRM ID' number in order for it to import correctly into the auto-select 'contact reference' field.  So first I added the people I wanted to be selected from into a group, titled it 'clerks' then created a custom 'contact reference field' for memberships, and selected the group 'clerks', then using find and replace in the .csv, I replaced all of the clerk's names with their 'civiCRM ID', then it imported nicely.

the wiki is community editable. Can you please add the necessary documentation for this there (if the docs are in the wiki)

if in the book, you can also edit the book and the changes will be merged into a future release
