[solved] Localisation options are not available in selection field
January 22, 2014, 12:06:30 pm
I have tried installing a German localization with the most recent Drupal and CiviCRM sources for several times before starting the install-routine - and afterwards as well. I even copied all available language folders together with the sql folder into the CiviCRM root folder, but always ended up with the selection field just showing the default US localization.

Even the file/folder permissions seem to be ok - even if I found no hint about this being a possible error source.

The folders are definitely where they should be, but the selection field does never change because of that.

What do I miss?

What is your CiviCRM version? Where precisely are the folders you added?

The standard location for add on modules such as CiviCRM would be sites/all/modules not just "modules". It should still work, but perhaps that's the problem...

Isn't it strange to create an "all" folder just for CiviCRM only? All other modules are directly in "modules". Maybe the directory structure you propose isn't the most recent one? At least the CiviCRM documentation disagrees with what you suggest:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC42/CiviCRM+Localisation

But what ever I think: I just copied everything in the newly created "all" folder, but it didn't change a thing, unfortunately.

No, this is the standard setup for all Drupal sites. Addon modules go in sites/all/modules/. This is what the Drupal site recommends as well as what we recommend.

That is a mistake, and I corrected it in the latest version of the docs http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/CiviCRM+Localisation

If you put CiviCRM into sites/all/modules/ then you must

1. Refresh all caches in Drupal so it will pick up this change
2. Edit your civicrm.settings.php file to note the new directory

If it still fails, I don't know. It sounds odd. :(

Ok, I see. Not only "all" was missing, but "sites/all". Therefore I used the wrong Drupal folder from start, since unfortunately there is an "modules" folder in the Debain root directory as well. Just to be sure to carry no inadequate configuration files I'll wipe everything out and make an other attempt to install Drupal with CiviCRM.

Thank you for that clarification. I hope now I can enable the German locaisation without any further difficulties.

Sounds good. A standard Drupal taken from drupal.org comes with sites/all and sites/all/modules actually. Perhaps yours was not a default copy.

No, I actually wanted to say, that these folders weren't mentioned in the documentation, before you adapted it, and therefore misled me to use the "modules" folder in the Drupal root directory instead of the one in the "sites/all" directory for installing CiviCRM (and it's language files).

But the wrong folder obviously was the problem. Now it instantly worked. :)

Thanks again for your valuable help!
